ABOUT THE AREA

Silverton, Colorado is a small town in a spectacular caldera of the high San Juan Mountain range.  The town is at the upper terminus of the D&SNGRR (Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad) and bustles with tourist activity, restaurants and shops in the summer.  In winter, things settle down to a relaxed pace and although quiet, Silverton has much to offer the winter enthusiast.  Silverton Mountain, Colorado's newest ski area offering all-expert terrain and lift service to the backcountry, is just seven miles from town.  Silverton is located 50 miles north of Durango and 50 miles south of Montrose.   Treasure Mountain Hut is just ten miles from Silverton and 5.5 miles from the historic mill site of Eureka.
